The Iraqi Handball Federation was founded on 10-12-1972. Attempts to spread the game in Iraq began in the late 1940s, and the first official championship was held in Baghdad in 1971. The first Iraqi Handball League was organized in the 1977-1978 season, and Al-Talaba Club won the first league title.
